Counting in ten municipal corporations begins

Mumbai, Feb 2 (UNI) Counting for the ten municipal corporations in Maharashtra began today at 0800 hrs, official sources said.

The ten corporations where counting is underway are Mumbai, Thane, Nasik, Ulhasnagar, Nagpur, Akola, Amravati, Solapur, Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.

The outcome of these elections are significant as this will show the mood of urban voters from Maharashtra.

There are 22 municipal corporations in the state out of which ten had gone for polls.

The ten corporations have 1,162 wards in which total 9,246 candidates are in fray.

However, all eyes are set on the prestigious Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) here as the metropolis is considered as the financial capital of the country whose annual budget stands at Rs 12,000 crore.

While Shiv Sena-BJP were in alliance in all the ten municipal corporations, Congress and NCP could not work out their alliance in any of the corporations barring Akola.
