New Delhi, Feb 2 (UNI) The BJP today described the victory of Shiv Sena-BJP combine in elections to ten municipal corporations in Maharashtra, including that in Mumbai, as proof that the Congress was fast losing political ground in Maharashtra.

Expressing happiness over the poll results, BJP spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad said the mandate was against the Congress and in favour of the BJP-Shiv Sena. The Congress suffered reverses in almost all places. He said the people had demonstrated their anger against "misgovernance" and the government's apathy towards their security.

The people were unhappy over the government's mishandling of Mumbai and Malegaon bomb blasts.

Mr Prasad said the Congress also lost dalit votes because of the killings in Khairlanji.
