Cong leads in Mumbai, MNS opens account in Ulhasnagar
Mumbai, Feb 2 (UNI) The Congress has taken an early lead in the city winning eight seats while the Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), which is making its electoral debut, opened its account from Ulhasnagar in the elections to ten Municipal Corporations spread across Maharashtra.
The counting of votes for Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Nagpur, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Ulhasnagar, Solapur, Amravati, Akola and Nashik began this morning. The polling was held yesterday and an estimated 60 per cent of the 1.57 crore electorate had cast votes.
The Congress has won eight seats while the Shiv Sena has been declared winner on two seats, the BJP, NCP and the MNS managed one seat each of the results declared so far for the elections to the prestigious Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
According to the results declared so far, Shiv Sena has won 17 seats in Thane. NCP has won 10, Congress and BJP three each while one seat has gone to an Independent in the 116-member civic body.
In Ulhasnagar, the Nationalist Congress Party(NCP) and Shiv Sena have won four seats each whereas the Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP), MNS and an Independent won one seat each.
In Solapur, the Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena have won one seat each.
