CM inaugurates two-day annual Bhagidari Utsav

New Delhi, Feb 2 (UNI) Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today inaugurated the two-day annual Bhagidari Utsav, which highlights people's participation in governance.

Ms Dikshit presented cheques of Rs 5,000 each to five women under the Girl Child Protection Scheme.

The scheme aims providing protection to girl child to enhance her social status and economically empower the women and the girl child.

The Delhi Government is providing financial assistance for long-term fixed deposit in the name of new born girl child for a period of 18 years.

The Chief Minister also presented cheques of Rs 20,000 each to ten poor widows as financial assistance for the wedding of their daughters. A separate comprehensive healthcare camp for the senior citizens has also been organised at the festival , being held at Pragati Maidan.

Stree Shakti groups, school children and number of drummers participated in a cultural programme at festival.

The Chief Minister visited stalls put up by several departments, government agencies, NDMC, MCD, Delhi Police, Delhi Fire Service, Disaster Management Authority, Delhi Jal Board, DDA, nine Revenue Districts and Bhagidari Cell.

Ms Dikshit, in another function organised by Delhi Jal Board, presented first ever Chief Minster Best Rain Harvester Award 2006.

First prize of Rs two lakh was presented to Jamia Hamdard University, Hamdard Nagar in institutional category whereas Mr Baljeet Singh from Revela Village Najafgarh was presented first prize of Rs one lakh in the individuals category.
