Measures to prevent kid marriages on 'Sivaratri'

Srikalahasti, Andhra Pradesh, Feb 2: The district administration is all set to prevent child marriages likely to be performed on the auspicious 'Sivaratri' at Srikalahasteeswara Temple here.

Speaking at 'Anti-child marriage convention' organised by the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) here last evening, Collector S S Rawat urged the ZPTCs, MPTc, sarpanches and NGOs to work together to prevent child marriages on the day.

Though the law had prohibitted child marriages, the custom was still in practice in some families.

Mr Rawat wanted officials to identify parents intending to perform the marriages of their minor children and give them adequate counselling.
