AIADMK activists resort to road roko

Tiruttani, Feb 2 (UNI) Tension prevailed for about an hour in the temple town of Tiruttani today, when a section of local AIADMK activists led by local MLA Hari resorted to road roko on the busy Tiruttani-Chennai high way, protesting against local Municipal authorities removing a flower shop run by an AIADMK woman functionary, as an encroachment.

Police said, the Municipal authorities removed the flower shop situated at the entrance of the local market as it blocked the free movement of public in the area.

The AIADMK contended that if the authorities removed all the shops located on the encroached sites they would have no objection.

Instead, the authorities removed the shop owned by an AIADMK functionary and that caused concern for them.

Despite repeated attempts to persuade the Muncipal authorities they removed the shop. Hence the AIADMK resort to road roko, the police added.

Top police and revenue officials rushed to the spot and persuaded the agitators and restored normalcy, police said.

However, the AIADMK men put up the removed shop back in its original spot and dispersed, police said.
