8 killed, 50 injured in fog-related road accidents

Lucknow, Feb 2 (UNI) At least eight people were killed and 50 others injured in separate road accidents due to dense fog in Uttar Pradesh today.

Four pilgrims were killed on the spot in a bus-jeep head-on collision in Bichwan area of Mainpuri district today.

Police Superintendent R K Rai said some pilgrims were returning from Farrukhabad after taking a holy dip in the Ganga, when the mishap occurred this morning. The deceased are yet to be identified.

Four others were also injured in the accident.

Another report from Farrukhabad said a woman, Uma Devi, died after being run over by a truck in Maudarwaza area. Later, the truck hit a roadside tree in which six persons were injured.

An aged unidentified man died in Pratapgarh district when he was hit by a vehicle on Allahabad-Faizabad highway early morning.

According to a report from Hapur (Ghaziabad), two pilgrims died and 40 others were injured in separate road accidents near Bhatiyana village on the busy Delhi-Lucknow highway.

The victims were on their way to Gadhmukteshwar on the occasion of Maghi Purnima today.
