Srinagar, Feb 1 (UNI) The women wing of the National Conference (NC), main Opposition party in Jammu and Kashmir, today took to the streets protesting against alleged increase in the human rights (HR) violations.

Hundreds of women took out a procession from the NC headquarter, Nawai Subh, Zero bridge, raising slogans against the '' State Terrorism''.

The police stopped them when they were proceeding towards the United Nations Military Observers (UNMO) office at Sonawar to lodge a protest.

The processionists were demanding stern action against the police officials involved in the killing of Abdul Rehman Padder in a fake encounter by Ganderbal Special Operation Group (SOG) of state police recently.

Earlier, the NC president Omar Abdullah, addressing his party workers at Gupkar, said HR violations had increased manifold since the coalition government took over in the state.

He said the SOG of the state police was functioning despite claims by the coalition government that it had been disbanded.

Mr Omar, an MP, alleged that SOG Ganderbal, accused of killing several innocent people in fake encounters, was ''used'' to defeat him in the 2002 Assembly elections.

He demanded setting up of a judicial commission to probe all the fake encounters to bring the culprits to book.
