Razi visits Delhi carrying delimitation issue for discussion
Ranchi, Feb 1 (UNI) Jharkhand Governor Syed Sibtey Razi today left for New Delhi, carrying two major issues on Delimitation Commission's new recommendation and tribal land for discussion with the Centre.
Mr Razi is scheduled to call on Union Tribal Affairs Minister P R Kyndia this evening, while another meeting with Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil is slated for tomorrow, Raj Bhavan sources told UNI here.
In the past few weeks, almost all political parties in Jharkhand had been expressing concern over the Delimitation Commission's new recommendations in which reserved Assembly and Parliamentary seats for SC/STs were likely to be reduced.
Other issue over which the politicians had been debating was the notification of 2003 that contained a few flaws for which some land in the state got exluded from tribal land status.
Several memoranda were submitted to the Governor over the twin issue.
The leaders demanded that the Centre make Consitutional amendment on the Commission issue and introduce a fresh notification on the tribal land matter.
According to the new Commission recommendations, in the 82-member Assembly reserved seat for SC/STs was likely to be reduced to 21 from existing 28, while one seat was likely to be deleted from five Parliamentary reserved seats.
