Singrauli, Uttar Pradesh, Feb 1 (UNI) State-owned power major NTPC Ltd has lined up an investment of Rs 1,185 crore to enhance the life of its first power plant in Singrauli by another 25 years.

The station, which will be completing 25 years of operations next month, has reached maturity state of plant life cycle.

Thus to defer the decline state for a substantial period, it is going in for renovation and modernisation (R&M) schemes for all seven units in three phases.

The process will involve upgradation of boilers, replacement of obsolete technology including controls and switching, fans, large capacity transformers, generator circuit breakers etc.

''The life extension programme and R&M in the first phase would come to about Rs 50 crore and for the second phase an allocation of Rs 135 crore has been made. The mega R&M, which will help in increasing the efficiency of the plant besides maintaining the present levels, is expected to cost Rs 1,000 crore,'' NTPC Singrauli General Manager R K Gaur told the group of reporters visiting the plant.
