K'taka council adjourned over protest on delay in chairman election
Bangalore, Feb 1 (UNI) The main Congress Opposition in Karnataka Legislative Council today stalled the proceedings protesting over the delay in election of Chairman of the upper house, forcing the presiding offer N Thippanna to adjourn the house for the day without transacting any business.
The House could not take up any business as the Mr Thipanna, the officiating Chairman, adjourned the house in the morning after the congress protest. Even after the house reassembled in the afternoon, the Congress members raised slogans against the presiding officer and said that it would not recognise Mr Thippanna as Chairman as his appointment was unconstitutional and illegal.
The Congress action was led by leader of the opposition H K Patil who said that his party would not recognise Mr Thippanna, a member of the ruling coalition partner, Janata Dal (Secular) as Chairman. As the presiding officer When the house reassembled after brief adjournment it was greeted by slogan shouting congress members against the Government.
Mr Thipanna amidst the din announced that the government had not erred in appointing him as the officiating chairman and adjourned the house for the day.
