JPP supports Delimitation Commission's recommendation in J'khand
Ranchi, Feb 1 (UNI) The Jharkhand People's Party(JPP) today welcomed the Delimitation Commission's proposals, saying the tribal leaders have been ''misleading'' their own people in the state.
With protests from various political leaders in Jharkhand across party lines continuing unabated, the JPP was the only party in the state which welcomed the Commission's recommendations.
However, almost all other political outfits expressed concerns that it might result in decrease of reserved Assembly and Parliamentary seats for the SC/STs.
Addressing a press conference here, JPP president Mukesh Baba said the ruling UPA government's hullabaloo over the recommendations was unnecessary and since they were not addressing the core point as the increase or decrease in seats depended on Census report.
Mr Baba said off late the birth rate of tribal population increased in Jharkhansd and the death rate went down.
He also expressed concern over the low tribal population.
He attributed the decrease to migration of the community which no tribal Chief Ministers of the state had been able to check.
The JPP president struck a sensitive chord saying in Jharkhand the tribals were ''minority'' and all the Chief Ministers of this state, since its inception, were from tribal community.
''What they have done for the upliftment of the poverty-stricken tribals in Jharkhand?,'' Mr Baba questioned adding ''I myself being from the tribal community do feel hesitant to say the majority people should rule.'' He said no proper policy has been adopted by successive governments for the tribals, adding, in the name of industries, MOUs had been signed which sounded more on papers than in reality.
He announced that on February 3, the party would hold a conclave here, in which all like-minded people were expected to join hands for chalking out the next move.
