Haryana to increase crop productivity
Chandigarh, Feb 1 (UNI) The Haryana Government has decided to make concerted efforts to increase the per hectare crop productivity over the total 38 lakh hectares of land available for cultivation in the state.
Haryana Agriculture Minister Harmohinder Singh Chatha said that a multi-pronged strategy would be adopted to achieve the desired result in this direction.
To begin with, a campaign would be launched for doubling the sugarcane productivity from Rajlugarhi in Sonepat district on Feburary 3. The district, which was known for highest mushroom production and Food Park at Rai, would also become popular for the per hectare highest productivity yield of sugarcane through this campaign.
At present about 250 quintals of yield was being obtained per acre and with the help of new techniques of sugarcane cultivation the farmers would now be able to double their yield, the Minister said.
The vertical crop productivity would be increased and the gap between current yield and potential productivity would be filled up by providing quality inputs like seeds, fertilisers and modern agricultural appliances to farmers, Mr Chatha said.
The government, he said, would ensure better prices to the farmers to increase their net income besides restoring the faith of the farmers in tiding over the crisis besetting the agricultural sector for equipping and encouraging them to adopt latest methods of cultivation.
He said ultra modern Post Harvest Management facilities were being provided in Karnal, Hisar, Rohtak, Ambala and Jind mandis.
Commodity based hubs were being set up at Kurukshetra for Potato, Karnal for Tomato, Jhajjar for Onion, Sonepat for Mushroom and Sirsa for Kinnow.
