Consumer price index remains stationary

Shimla, Jan 31 (UNI) All India Consumer Price Index Number for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) on base 2001=100 for the month of December, 2006 remained stationary at 127.

During December last year, the index recorded decrease of four points in Agra centre, three points in Rangapara-Tezpur, Ludhiana and Jalpaiguri centres, two points in nine centres and one point in 20 centres.

The index increased by three points each in Bangalore and Labac-Silcher centres. It increased by two points in three centres and one point in 11 centres, while in the remaining 29 centres the index remained stationary.

The decrease of four points in Agra centre was caused by the decrease in the prices of vegetable and fruit items. The increase of three points in Bangalore centre was contributed by the increase in the prices of rice, groundnut oil, goat meat, milk, onion, vegetable and fruit items, kerosene oil, flowers and increase in ESI premium, while increase of three points in Labac-Silcher centre was the outcome of increase in the prices of rice, wheat flour, pan leaf etc.
