Congress releases list of candidates for Corporation polls
Hyderabad, Feb 1 (UNI) The Congress today released the list of its candidates for the Greater Visakha and Rajahmundry Municipal Corporation elections to be held on February 19.
State Congress President K Keshavarao, while announcing the list, said out of the 72 seats for the Visakha Municipal Corporation, the party would contest 67 seats while its alliance partner Communist Party of India (CPI) would fight for the remaining five seats.
He said the party had cleared the names for 61 seats and the remaining six names would be cleared by tomorrow.
Mr Keshavarao said the party had decided to field BC candidates for the elections of Mayors of Visakhapatnam and Rajahmundry Corporations and also the Hindupur Municipality.
He said the party had given 34 seats for the Backward Class (BC) candidates, six seats for Kapu candidates and five for Reddy candidates in the Visakha Corporation elections.
Out of the 50 seats for the Rajahmundry Municipal Corporation elections, the party would contest for 48 seats, while the CPI would contest two seats, he said.
Mr Keshavarao said the party had given 17 seats for the BC candidates and eight seats for Scheduled Castes and one for Scheduled Tribes in the Rajahmundry Corporation elections.
