New Delhi, Feb 1 (UNI) The election manifesto for Uttarakhand, finalised here today, promises carrying forward the ongoing development works, launching of some job oriented schemes, and undertaking welfare activities for the people in the BPL category to make them self dependent if the Congress returns to power after the assembly elections.

The election manifesto was finalised at a meeting of the Central Manifesto Committee of the Congress headed by External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee and attended by Uttarakhand PCC Chief Harish Rawat and CWC members Oscar Fernandes, Margaret Alva and Moti Lal Vora.

Mr Rawat told reporters after the meeting that the manifesto for the February 21 Assembly elections in Uttarakhand focusses on development of infrastructure and capacity building of the State.

The manifesto had three salient features, Mr Rawat said. Firstly, it speaks of carrying forward the development works initiated by the Congress government to its logical conclusions by meeting the needs of the funds required for it. Secondly, the manifesto declares such schemes that would create the greatest job opportunties would be launched. Thirdly, the manifesto states people in BPL category would be lifted to a level where they stand on their own feet in six to eight years.

Mr Rawat said it would be the effort of the government to give employment to ex-servicemen by giving them training. Of the total 1,20,000 ex-servicemen in Uttarkahand, as many as 60,000 ex-servicemen could be provided gainful employment. For them a special Inudstrial Training Institute had been proposed for giving them training. Setting up of state ecological task force has also been proposed to give them part time job.
