Ban Valentine Day celebrations: PMK demands
Tindivanam, Feb 1 (UNI) Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder leader Dr S Ramadoss today demanded a ban on celebration of Valentine's Day in Tamil Nadu on February 14.
Talking to newspersons at his Thailapuram residence here, the PMK leader said the DMK government should ban celebration of Valentine's Day in public as it was against Tamil culture and ethos.
In the name of Valentine's day celebration, youths come out to the streets and ''indulge in vulgarity'' and cultural degradation, he alleged.
Dr Ramadoss, who had launched a campaign against popular actor Khushboo for her controversial remarks on pre-marital sex, said there was nothing wrong in falling in love with someone, but celebrating it in public could not be accepted.
The PMK leader expressed concern that Ganja Choclate, Panparak, Gutka and other tobacco products were freely available outside school and college premises.
Urging the state government to take stern action against those who sell the products, he said to press this demand, the party would observe a state-wide protest tomorrow, he said.
Dr Ramadoss also regretted that in the recent past, the Union Territory of Pondicherry was witnessing cultural degradation and flesh trade had become rampant there in the absence of stringent laws to deal with these crimes.
