Srinagar, Feb 1 (UNI) An Anti-Narcotic Task Force set up to curb cultivation of cannabis crop, including poppy, in Kashmir met here for the first time last evening, an official spokesman said today.

Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Basharat Ahmed Dhar chaired the meeting which discussed in detail various measures aimed at curbing the cultivation of Indian hemp, poppy and other crops.

It also deliberated upon steps to be taken to destroy such crops.

Mr Dhar directed the Deputy Commissioners to immediately identify areas where such crops were being cultivated and submit a detailed report within 10 days.

He also stressed the need for launching a vigorous drive from February 15 to destroy poppy cultivation at its initial stage and initiating an intensive campaign to make people aware about the ill affects of crop and the punitive action proposed against those involved in the illegal trade.

Mr Dhar asked the health authorities to organise camps for rehabilitation of youth addicted to drugs and suggested that one ward be established in each major hospital for the purpose.

The Divisional Commissioner stressed for greater coordination among various departments concerned to achieve better results in the offensive against narcotics in Kashmir.
