8 killed, 15 hurt in mishap near Akola

Nagpur, Feb 1 (UNI) Eight people were killed and 15 others injured when a bus in which they were travelling collided head-on a truck near Balapur in Akola district in Vidarbha today.

The deceased include the driver of the bus.

According to police, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus was on its way from Khamgaon, Buldhana district to Akola when it hit a truck coming from opposite direction about 3 kilometres from Balapur this morning.

Two passengers died on the spot, while six others, who were seriously injured, succumbed while undergoing treatment in Akola, the police said.

The 15 injured are also undergoing treatment in Akola.

The deceased were identified as Baba Ghorpade, the driver of the bus, Dagdabai, Vithoba, Shyamsunder Sharma, Brijlal Sharma, Chironjilal Sharma (all three residents of Khamgaon), Kalu Shah Mirchiwale (Balapur) and Ramrao Waghmare (Akola). There were 35 passengers on board the bus when the mishap occurred, the police said.
