US delegation visits Punjab to study election process

Ramgarh, Kapurthala, Jan 31 (UNI) A three-member US delegation today visited Bholath assembly constituency in Punjab to study the election process and development.

The delegation led by Political Officers Mary Colebank and Reva Gupta and Political Analyst Shreen Singh from US Embassy met Bholath Congress candidate Sukhpal Singh Khaira and his father former Education Minister Sukhjinder Singh at their residence at village Ramgarh and had discussions over the prevailing political situation in the state.

The delegates refused to talk to the media but said they had come here to study the election process and development.

They said that they would submit the report to the US Government about the prevailing situation in the state.

Sukhpal Singh Khaira told media persons that the delegates discussed the rural health, education and the AIDS awareness in the villages. The delegates had visited Chandigarh, Jalandhar and met people from different walks of life to study the Punjab, he added.

Mr Khaira said the visit by the US delegates would help in strengthening the bilateral relations with India which is fast emerging as a economic power in the the world.

The delegates had a meeting with Punjab Kesari Joint Editor Avinash Chopra in Jalandhar today and met the prominent industrialists.

The delegates also attended the election rally of Sukhpal Khaira at village Dadupur near Dhilwan and interacted with local people to elicit their views about life in the villages.

The delegates expressed surprise when the villagers weighed Khaira with coins after the election rally.

Later, they left for Amritsar to pay obeisance at Harmandir Sahib and to see the Wagha border.
