Two booked for pilferage of 25 truckloads of govt cement in J

Srinagar, Jan 31 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Vigilance Organisation today filed a chargesheet against a store keeper of the Irrigation Department and a carriage contractor for pilferage of 25 truckloads of government cement.

The Vigilance Organisation produced the charge-sheet against Surinder Singh, in-charge store keeper of the Irrigation Division, Akhnoor, and Ishtiyaq Ahmad Sheikh, a carriage contractor of JK cements and a resident of Sheikh Mohalla Khrew, in the Court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption Kashmir here for pilferage of 25 truckloads of government cement in March 2004.

A case was registered on March 19, 2005 following allegations that officials of the Irrigation Division, Akhnoor, in connivance with officers of JK Cements and carriage contractor Ishtiyaq Traders have pilfered more than 25 truckloads of cement, a vigilance spokesman said.

A huge quantity of the cement, meant for use by the Irrigation Division, Akhnoor, was seized from various dealers in Anantnag town.

It was proved during investigation that out of 62 truckloads of cement, 25 did not reach the destination at Akhnoor and was pilfered, he added.

The accused, in connivance with the carriage contractor, showed the cement having been received and issued for various ongoing works in the Irrigation Division, Akhnoor, the spokesman said.
