Gorakhpur: Trouble makers booked under NSA
Gorakhpur, Jan 31: Elaborate security arrangements have been made to maintain law and order situation in this eastern Uttar Pradesh district and anyone found ''disturbing peace'' would be booked under the National Security Act (NSC).
Curfew in Kotwali, Tiwaripur and Rajghat areas was imposed after a communal clash on Friday night. Later, shoot-at-sight orders issued against curfew violators.
Later on Monday, curfew was also clamped in Gorakhnath police station area amid violent protests following the arrest of BJP MP Yogi Aditya Nath. Besides, section 144 (prohibitory orders) was imposed in other police station areas.
Talking to UNI today, Gorkhpur Senior Superintendent of Police S K Bhagat said the administration is leaving no stone unturned to maintain law and order in the city. Over 20 companies of paramilitary forces have been pressed into round-the-clock service.
Besides, a large number of local police personnel had also been deployed to avoid any fresh violence.
''In the last 36 hrs, no relaxation was made in the curfew nor would it be made till things turn better. Stringent action would be taken against those trying to disturb law and order situation, trouble makers would be booked under NSA.'' ''So far, no decision was yet taken to release Yogi Nath.
Besides, the entry of politicians had been banned,'' he added.
The BJP MP and successor of Gorakhnath Peeth Yogi Nath and over 350 others were arrested for ''disturbing peace'' and violating section 144.
Agitated by his arrest, supporters torched a UPSRTC bus under Cantonment police station area. The mob also stoneles pelted at the Gorakhnath temple. The mob also torched a sleeper coach of the Nautanava-Gorakhpur train near Nakha railway station.
Meanwhile, Hindu Vahini leader and Devipatan Shaktipeeth Mahant Kaushalendra Nath and his over 12 supporters were taken into custody in Maharajganj Terai area on Monday, when they were on way to Bahraich.
Similar reports of protests were received from Maharajganj, Basti, Azamgarh, Balrampur, Kushinagar and Deoria districts.
Yesterday, curfew was also imposed in Kushinagar after the situation 'went out of control.' Meanwhile, all educational institutes have been closed till February 3.
Miscreants had opened fire at a 'baraat' procession on Friday night, in which over 24 persons were wounded in Ismailpur under Kotwali police station area.
Some people, trying to escape the shootout, entered a moharram procession nearby, leading to a clash between the two groups. The situation turned tense after a wounded Raj Kumar Agrahari died at Gorakhpur Medical College.
