Jaipur, Jan 31 (UNI) North-Western Railway has started the repair and restoration work of the damaged Kawas railway station which would help in the early resumption of the Thar Express connecting Jodhpur with Munabao in Pakistan.

The Jodhpur-Barmer section of the rail route was suspended due to the flooding of the rail lines and Kawas railway station due to the flash flood in the desert district of Barmer in April last year leading to the suspension of the Thar Express.

NW Railway Chief Public Relations officer S B Gandhi said the first Divisional Meterial Train (DMT) has already arrived at Kawas and started the restoration work. He said the work was expected to be complted within three weeks and the railway track would be open for traffic by the end of February.

''Our priority is to resume the train traffic at Barmer and Jodhpur section at the earliest and resumption of the Thar Express,'' NW Railway sources added.
