SC rejects PIL challenging polling through EVMs
New Delhi, Jan 31 (UNI) The Supreme Court today refused to entertain a PIL challenging polling by electronic voting machines (EVM) on the grounds that it violated the principle of secret voting.
A Bench comprising Justices B N Agarwal and P P Naolekar permitted the petitioner, Ashok Agarwal, to withdraw the petition after the court refused to entertain the same.
The court told the petitioner to approach the authorities concerned for the redress of his grievance.
The petitioner, however, contended that there were reports of a chief election officer alleging that the identity of the voter is recorded and anybody can find out for which candidate the elector has voted thereby exposing him to intimidation and harassment by those for whom he has not voted.
