Prohibitory orders follow Mohurram violence in MP city

Indore, Jan 30 (UNI) Prohibitory orders were clamped on the local Raoji Bazaar, Chhatripura and Pandrinath police station areas tonight after the police resorted to a cane-charge and lobbed teargas shells to disperse members of two communities indulging in stone-pelting, arson and other damage to property following immersion of 'tazias' at the Karbala Ground on the occasion of Mohurram.

An unspecified number of persons were injured in the incident.

''Members of a procession returning from the Karbala Ground pelted stones at a nearby Hanuman shrine where worship was taking place. They also targeted vehicles, shops and indulged in arson. In retaliation, members of the other community pelted stones and damaged property,'' said Superintendent of Police Anshuman Yadav.

''The situation is under control,'' claimed District Collector Vivek Agrawal.

Meanwhile, the administration vacated Karbala Ground.

Tension was already prevailing in the city as both religious programmes were scheduled. Keeping that in view, Rapid Action Force platoons and a heavy police force were stationed.
