Noted Yakshagana artist Govinda Naik dead
Sirsi, Jan 31: Noted Yakshagana artist Govinda Naik died at his residence in Kumata yesterday.
He was 85. He was survived by two sons and one daughter.
Receipient of Kannada Rajyotsava award, Mr Naik, who was famous for his "Hanuman" role, begun his career in Yakshagana through Sri Ramanath Yakshagana Mandali started by his father Mukunda Naik.
After his father's demise the Company has been closed. Later Mr Naik served as artist in Saligrama Mela, Amruteshwari Mela and Perdur Mela of North and South Kanara districts.
He was also conferred with late Durgadas Gangolli award.
