Nitish seeks PM's intervention on Bihar issue
Patna, Jan 31 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today sought Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's intervention to resolve several problems engulfing the state.
In a letter to Dr Singh, Mr Kumar raised the issues of construction of roads pending under third phase of National Highway Development Project (NHDP) and the inclusion of the eligible BPL families under Targeted Public Distribution Scheme (TDPS).
Mr Kumar said the list prepared by the Union Rural Development Ministry had fixed a limit of 66.322 lakh rural BPL families in the state with an additional 73 lakh.
He further said the Union Food Ministry had allocated foodgrains to only 65.23 lakh rural and urban families of which over ten lakh are urban families.
Explaining that the current allocations would benefit only 55 lakh rural BPL families, Mr Kumar urged Dr Singh to increase the limits to 16 points for preparing the BPL list so that none is deprived of the benefit.
