Mumbai Sarvodaya Mandal takes lead in paying homage to Mahatma

Mumbai, Jan 30 (UNI) Mumbai Sarvodaya Mandal members today observed a two minute silence followed by a prayer meeting at Mani Bhavan here on the occasion of 59th death anniversary Mahatma Gandhi.

Speaking to UNI, TRK Somaya of the Mumbai Sarvodaya Mandal said, ''In order to pay respects to Gandhiji, the members of the Mumbai Sarvodaya Mandal held a sale of books on the father of the nation at various shops at Flora Fountain, Apna Bazaar, Akbarallys and at six different venues, at 50 per cent discount. In two days books worth Rs 72,000 have already been sold.'' Politicians offered floral tributes to the Mahatma at Vidhan Bhavan, Mantralaya, Congress and NCP offices.

The Mumbai Sarvodaya Mandal took the lead in organising a march to inculcate the spirit of peace and communal harmony as visualised by Gandhiji.

About 1200 NSS cadets, students from 42 colleges along with the Gandhian activists, social workers and peace loving citizens marched from Azad Maidan to Hutatma Chowk, carrying placards, banners on Communal Harmony like ''Hate Hurts, Harmony Heals''.

The Mandal also held a sale of books on Gandhiji at various shops in South Mumbai.

At the headquarters of Congress and NCP, prayer meetings were also organised.
