New Delhi, Jan 31 (UNI) A day after mercury in Delhi shot up to 14.3 degree Celsius, there was a drop in minimum temperatures in the capital today even as the warmth in the air over last week continued to persist.

The disappearance of the cloud cover over Delhi, which had yesterday led to rise in mercury, today led to a considerable fall in minimum temperatures, from 14.6 degree C yesterday to 11.6 degree C.

The maximum temperatures also dropped, from 27.6 degree C yesterday to 26.2 degree C.

The drop in mercury notwithstanding the warmth in the air, continued even though some chill was experienced during the morning hours.

Infact, both the minimum and maximum temperatures continued to be above normal. While the minimum at 11.6 degree, was three degree above normal, the maximum, at 26.2 degree, was four degree above normal.

Weathermen have forecast a further drop in temperatures in North-West India during the next 48 hrs, indicating a return to the winter chill towards the weekend.

''The current meteorological analysis suggests further fall in both day and night temperatures by 2-3 degree C over the North-West India during the next 48 hrs,'' met office said.

Infact, the met office have forecast a drop in minimum temperatures to 10 degree C tomorrow.

The weather office has predicted a mainly clear sky in Delhi during the next 24 hrs.

After experiencing a cold wave for three consecutive weeks, the mercury has been witnessing an upward movement over the last week.
