Marijuana worth Rs 1.05 crore seized in Nagpur

Nagpur, Jan 31 (UNI) Police seized 3,500 kg of marijuana worth Rs 1.05 crore concealed under bags of coconut in a truck and arrested three people, including owner of the vehicle, at Khapri, near here, today.

Nagpur District (Rural) Superintendent of Police (SP) Yashaswi Yadav told UNI that the truck was seized after a tip-off that a huge consignment of marijuana was being transported through Nagpur.

The marijuana was being transported in 99 bags from Andhra Pradesh to various distribution points in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, Mr Yadav said.

The consignment was worth Rupees 1.05 crore in the open market where it commanded a rate of Rs 3,500 per kg, he said.

Mr Yadav said police arrested the owner of the vehicle K V Srinivas Apparao (44), driver S Sachchinarayan Swami Naidu (38), and cleaner Baswi Reddy Ishwar Reddy (23), all residents of Anapatti in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh.
