Maoists demand release of arrested leader

Bangalore, Jan 31 (UNI) CPI(Maoists), strongly condemning the arrest of its leader J M Krishna in Chikmagalur district recently, today demanded his immediate release alleging that he was tortured and foisted false cases against him.

In a release here, CPI (Maoists) State Committee Member Gangadhar alleged that the activist was illegally detained by the police for three days before he was produced in a court on January 24. The police had also allegedly tortured him before he was produced in the court which had remaned him to police custody till February three.

He said police had filed nine false cases framing him in the Kerekatte incident, Kundur incident involving Maoists taking away fire arms from forest checkpost and the exchange of fire incident in Chikmgalur district recently.
