Journalists stage dharnas on false case against a Scribe

Eluru, Jan 31 (UNI) Working Journalists in West Godavari District today staged dharnas and resorted to road blackades at various places in protest against illegal case against a Journalist at Jangareddygudem in this district.

The Journalists took out a procession and resorted to rasta-roko at the fire station centre on Chennai-Kolkata National Highway for over half-an-hour. The traffic was disrupted on the Highway.

The scribes also went to the Collectorate and staged dharna, alleging that the police illegally filed a case against Ravindra, a reporter of Andhra Jyothi, a Telugu daily. Based on a a false complaint the police yesterday detained the journalist, who wrote a news item on land grabbing, they alleged.

The Journalists also demanded action against the police officers, who were involved in the case of harassment.

The scribes also submitted a memorandum to Joint Collector M Durga Das, who assured them necessary action would be taken in this regard. They also staged dharna before the District Superintendent of Police office and submitted a memorandum to SP M Jaganmohan Reddy, who assured them that he would pursue the matter.
