HC clears decks for Greater Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Jan 31 (UNI) A division Bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court today dismissed two public interest litigation petitions removing all hurdles for the Constitution of Greater Hyderabad by merging several Municipalities and Gram Panchayats in the periphery of twin cities.

The Bench comprising Chief Justice G S Singhvi and justice C V Nagarjuna Reddy turned down all objections raised by the petitioners and declared the Court could not intervene with policy making of the government.

The Bench also observed no Constitutional infirmities had been committed by the government in constituting Greater Hyderabad. The Bench in this connection rejected several writ petitions filed by the MIM MP Mr Asaduddin Owaisi and Telugu Desam Party City President Sayanna.

The two petitioners contended that merger of the peripheral Municipalities and Gram Panchayats would result in miser to the people there.

The Bench, however, directed the state government to complete the process of hearing the people and their representatives of the Municipalities and Gram Panchayat likely to be affected.
