Gang attack three; torch 13 parked vehicles
Tiruchirapalli, Jan 31 (UNI) A seven-member gang, wielding lethal weapons, barged into a private godown and attacked three people, including a woman, and torched 13 vehicles at Kodappu village on city outskirts, this evening.
Police said the godown accommodated vehicles seized by private banks and financial institutions for non-payment of dues by the buyers. The car-borne gang, wielding sickles, wooden logs and knives, stormed into the godown and attacked its owner Soundararajan, Sekar (36), a watchman and sweeper Ms Dhanalakshmi.
Sekar and Soundararajan suffered cut injuries and the woman was beaten up. Later, the gang went on rampage torching thirteen vehicles, including a car.
On hearing the scream of the injured, the villagers rushed to the the spot. However, they managed to escape from the scene.
Police suspect it to be the handiwork of a person, hailing from Keezhakurichi, whose two-wheeler was seized by a private bank for non-payment of dues, yesterday.
Sekar was admitted to the Government Headquarters Hospital, while Soundararajan and Dhanalakshmi were treated as out-patients.
