Former SGPC general secretary joins Congress

Jalandhar, Jan 31 (UNI) Senior Akali leader and former SGPC general secretary Bhai Veer Singh today quit Shiromani Akali Dal and joined the Congress alongwith his followers.

He joined the Congress party in presence of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh.

Later, talking to reporters Mr Singh said that he and his supporters had decided to join Congress in view of good governance and development oriented agenda implemented by the present Captain government during the past five years in the larger interests of Punjab.

Chief Minister Capt Singh said that Mr Singh's entry into Congress fold would further brighten the electoral prospects of Congress candidates in Doaba region.
