DUTA demands withdrawal of Teaching Assistantship Scheme
New Delhi, Jan 31 (UNI) The Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) today claimed that the University's Teaching Assistantship Scheme-2006 was ''illegal'' and demanded its immediate withdrawal.
''The scheme does not exist and has not been discussed, let alone be introduced by the Executive and Academic Councils.... it is in flagrant violation of the Statute and the Ordinances of the university,'' DUTA president Amar Deo Sharma said.
He said DUTA would not tolerate any attempt to ''insidiously'' push through the ''ill-conceived'' proposals by the Moily Committee to substitute teachers with teaching assistants.
''It is the responsibility of the government to permit the university and its colleges to recruit additional teachers in proportion to the envisaged increase in the number of students,'' he said.
''DUTA will not allow either the Government or the University from not fulfilling this responsibility,'' Mr Sharma added.
