Devotees participate in Thai Therottam

Srirangam, Jan 31 (UNI) Hundreds of devotees from various parts of Tamil Nadu, congregated at the historic Sri Ranganatha Swamy temple to participate in the annual 'Thai Therottam' (car festival) here today.

The deity 'Namperumal' attired in precious and antique ornaments, along with his consorts 'Sri Devi and Bhoo Devi,' mounted on a decorated temple car were taken in a procession at the auspicious hour of 0700 hrs around the four important streets surrounding the temple, amid reciting of vedic hymns by the priests and chanting of 'Ranga Ranga' by the devotees.

The holy procession took nearly four hours to reach the destination.

The car festival is organised every year in the auspicious Tamil month of 'Thai.' The temple authorities and police made elaborate arrangements for the car festival.
