Dept of Revenue staff hold dharna

Chennai, Jan 31 (UNI) Members of the Coordinating Committee of Federations in the Department of Revenue (Customs, Central Excise and Income Tax Departments) Tamil Nadu and Puducherry unit today staged a dharna at the Income Tax office here today protesting the setting up of a Large Tax Payers Unit (LTU) here.

According to the protestors, as LTUs with minimum staff strength were expected to have control over units generating 90 per cent revenue, there was a distinct possibility of the staff being rendered surplus on a very large scale and consequent redeployment.

More over, the introduction of LTUs would result in an unmanageable workload.

They said similar dharnas were held at Coimbatore, Salem, Madurai, Tiruchirapalli and Puducherry.
