Cong terms world conf on Satyagraha historic
New Delhi, Jan 31: The Congress today described the two-day international conference on Satyagraha that concluded here yesterday as "historic and a landmark" and said the most important thing that had emerged from the convention was that the Gandhian philosophy was relevant not just for India but the entire world.
The conference while recalling the contributions of Mahatma Gandhi to India stressed that Gandhian philosphy and his Satyagraha were not only a '' part of our glorious past but represented the best hope for a peaceful economic programme, inclusive growth and prosperity,'' Congress Spokesperson Jayanti Natraja told reporters here.
She said the Conference, organised by the Congress to propagate Gandhian thoughts, identified the basic human rights and the demand for first claim ''on our resources. It emphasised that nuclear disarmament was the best hope for the world.'' The conference, Ms Natrajan said, recognised the importance given to the rural community and the Constitutional sanction given to local bodies for a true devolution of power.
It strongly stood for dialogue instead of confrontation, persuasion and patient understanding as the only way to move forward.
