New Delhi, Jan 31 (UNI) By the end of 11th five year plan, the country's coal production will reach 100 million tonnes from the present 15 million tonnes for which coal blocks have been allotted to private players other than national coal companies, the government said today.

''Till now, 123 blocks have been allotted to various companies which will harness 27 billion tonnes of coal, Further, another 20 billion tonnes will be produced from the blocks awarded to private players,'' Coal Secretary H C Gupta told a conference.

In the 12th plan the maximum of these products will fructify and would start optimal production, he added.

In the next five years, there will be an increase in the exploration capacity in these coal blocks by a quantum level, Mr Gupta said, adding that the high priority area will be benefication of coal.

In this direction, Coal India has taken a roadmap under which they will be supplying wash coal to its suppliers.

In addition, a substantial capacity of wash coal is to be added from 100 million tonnes to 250 million tonnes during the next five years.

Further projects to be undertaken include underground coal gasification, currently at its pilot stage.
