Centre files Caveat in HC, lower courts on Sethu project
Chennai, Jan 31 (UNI) The Union Government today filed Caveat petitions in Madras High Court and other lower courts, stating ''let nothing be done in the matter without notice to the Caveators in respect of dispute relating to Sethusamudram Ship Canal Project''.
The Chairman of Sethusamudram Corporation Limited and Tuticorin Port Trust filed four Caveats, citing AIADMK, BJP, Vishwa Hindu Parishad(VHP) and Janata Party as respondents, before the High Court, City Civil Courts, District Court, Munsif Court and Sub Court.
This was in pursuance of AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa's statement recently that her party would move court, if the ongoing dredging work at Sethusamudram Canal Project (SSCP) which caused destruction of Adam's bridge (called Ramar bridge in mythology) at Palk Straits was not immediately stopped.
At a time when there were efforts to preserve historical sites and heritage monuments across the world, the SSCP had begun destroying the Adam's bridge, which had historical significance to India and its people, Ms Jayalalithaa said in the statement.
