Cauvery family calls for acceptance of Tribunal's final award

Mandya, Karnataka, Jan 31 (UNI) The Cauvery family, comprising farmers from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, today appealed to fellow ryots of both the States to accept the final verdict of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal, expected to be pronounced on February five.

Speaking to newspersons on behalf of the Cauvery family, which met here, Mr Janakarajan said the meeting decided to accept the verdict with an open mind and in a harmonious way, besides maintaining peace in both the States. The Cauvery family should create awareness among the farmers about the verdict immediately after it was announced.

Stating that this ninth meeting was attended by 22 members from both the States, he said the Cauvery family would meet even after the Tribunal pronounced its final award to discuss the aftermath of the judgement.

KRRS President K S Puttaniah said the Cauvery family would always help farmers of the two States whenever Cauvery water crisis arose.

The Tamil Nadu delegation included former Union Irrigation Secretary Ramaswamy Iyer, farmer leaders Ranganathan and Varadarajan. From Karnataka side, Messrs Puttaniah, Basavaraju, Ganapathy, Subbiah, K Boraiah and Sunanda Jayaram participated in the meeting.
