Case registered against Delhi Police ACP, SI on bribery charges
New Delhi, Jan 31 (UNI) In a body blow to the Delhi Police, two of its officials, including an Assistant Commissioner (ACP), were charged under 'bribery' for demanding and accepting Rs 1.5 lakh bribe from a businessman.
Of both the accused posted with the Anti-Extortion and Robbery Cell of the Crime Branch, while Sub-Inspector Jagdish Kumar has been arrested, ACP R K Bansal was 'avoiding' joining investigations, according to the CBI.
''SI Jagdish Kumar was arrested while accepting Rs 1.5 lakh bribe on behalf of ACP R K Bansal. Searches were on at the residences and offices of both the accused.'' The CBI registered a case against the two after a local businessman alleged that the ACP and SI were harrassing him on the basis of a complaint made by one of his business associates and demanding Rs 15 lakh as bribe.
''His house was also illegally raided and cash and jewellery worth Rs 30 lakh were taken away by them on January 20 last.'' However, the bribe amount was later reduced to Rs five lakh, said the CBI.
''The accused ACP is avoiding joining investigations despite repeated instructions by his senior officers and efforts were on to ensure his participation in the investigation.'' UNI
