Amend in Schedule XI to protect social justice: DPI

Puducherry, Jan 31: Dalit Panthers of India (DPI) founder-leader Thol Thirumavalavan today opined that rewriting of the constitution was not necessary.

Instead of rewriting the constition, an amendment to prevent the intervention of court in Schedule XI was enough to safeguard social justice, he told newspersons here.

The DPI leader demanded that the Tamil Nadu government's scheme to provide two acres of land to the landless be implemented throughout the country.

Referrring to an article in a leading magazine in which smokers were described as 'New Parayas,' Thirumavalavan said as this was a crime punishable under the PCR Act, the DPI would move the court against the magazine.

Stating that there was no 'political motives' on the Income Tax raids in the premises of actor-turned politician Vijayakanth, Mr Thirumavalavan demanded that the Union Government should ome out with some mechanism to find out the exact money earned by the actors and their real income.

The DPI would organise 'Mannurumai Maanaadu' in Tirunelveli on April 14 to press for provision of land and shelter to all poor people, in which leaders of the alliance parties would be invited.

The party would be organising conferences in all the districts of Tamil Nadu to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the formation of Tamil Nadu. In the conference 1,000 party cadres would change their names in Tamil, he added.

Welcoming the constitution of the state reorganising committee, he said the DPI would seek two more seats from the DMK in the corporation elections.

The orgnisational elections of the Puducherry unit of the DPI would be held in the first week of March, he said adding enrolment of new members into the party would continue till the end of February.

Demanding immediate filling of the vacant post of a Dalit Minister in the Rangasamy ministry here, Mr Thirumavalan regretted that the territorial administration, which had failed to waive loans of the Dalits extended by the Adidravidar Welfare Corporation should execute it and provide fresh loans to them.
