420 cartons of Phynsidyl cough syrup seized

Agartala, Jan 31 (UNI) Dharmanagar police, in Tripura's north district, seized 420 cartons of Phensidyl cough syrup from a cement loaded truck at Panisagar, on the national highway 44 yesterday.

According to police sources, acting on a tip off police party from Dharmanagar and Panisgar led by SDPO conducted search operations in a truck that was on its way from Guwahati to Agartala, and recovered 21000 bottles of phensidyl worth more than Rs 12 lakh.

The driver of the lorry hailing from Karimganj district of Assam was arrested in this connection. The cough syrup bottles were hidden under cement bags.

It was suspected that the phensidyl was meant for smuggling to Bangladesh through Agartala. Interrogation of the driver was on, sources added.
