1,134 candidates in fray for civic polls in PMC; 690 in PCMC

Pune, Jan 31 (UNI) As many as 18,51,396 voters will decide the fate of 1,134 candiates in 144 wards of the Pune Municipal Corporation and 7,69,483 voters will decide the fate of 690 candidates in 105 wards of neighbouring Pimpri-Chinchwad Municpal Corporation (PCMC) going to polls tomorrow, sources in the election office here today said.

The 26,20,879 voters in the PMC and PCMC will excercise their franchise and select the candidates trying their luck in the polls.

The leaders from all parties campaigned hard for every seat.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, NCP President Sharad Pawar, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and the newly formed Maharashtra Navnirmal Sena (MNS) President Raj Thackeray were among the star campaigners for their respective parties at different wards and city's Sarasbaug area.

In a fresh incident today, Sahkarnagar police have registered a case against NCP Candidate Subash Jagtap and his supporters for allegdly kidnaping and beating an editor of a weekly. The editor later released by Jagtap, police said.

The city police have identified 142 sensitives polling centres in 24 wards in PCMC and 58 sensitive centres in PMC area.
