10,380 EVMs installed for Mumbai civic polls: Commissioner

Mumbai, Jan 31 (UNI) About 10,380 EVMs (Electronic Voting Machines) have been installed in 6,951 polling booths to enable voters to exercise their franchise for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's election to the 227 wards tomorrow.

Addressing mediapersons here today BMC Commissioner Johny Joseph said all the nacessary arrangments had been made for tomorrow's polling here. Presiding officers have already reached their respective polling stations, he said.

A total of 10,380 EVMs have been installed in 6,951 polling booths and 120 EVMs have been kept spare, Mr Joseph said and added that in 915 polling booths in 30 wards, one additional EVM has been installed as there are more than 16 candidates constesting the election there.

For the smooth conduct of polls, 7,647 presiding officers and similar number of assistant presiding officers, 15,294 polling officers, 7,647 peons and 4,500 other staff 4,500 totalling 42,735 employees have been deployed on election duty, he said.

Polling will begin at 0730 hours and end at 1730 hours, he added.
