UPA must find common candidate for Palamu by-election, NCP
Ranchi, Jan 30 (UNI) The NCP in Jharkhand today said despite a bid by all UPA allies for their respective candidates in the byelection to Palamu Parliamentary seat, unanimity over common candidate must prevail.
The byelection, date of which is yet to be fixed, was necessitated after siting MP Manoj Kumar (RJD) had to lose membership over the cash-for-query scam.
Talking to reporters here, Nationalist Congress Party leader and state Minister Kamlesh Singh in the Madhu Koda-led UPA government said the coalition allies had already pressed hard for their respective candidates and hoped they would be able to field a common candidate to retain the seat.
Today the NCP's state working committee and all districts presidents held a meeting here.
Later, Mr Singh said the state-level worers' meeting would be held on February eight where party's national leaders like Tariq Anwar and former Lok Sabha Speaker Purno A Sangma were scheduled to take part.
