Tata Steel PAT up by 41 per cent in Q 3

Kolkata, Jan 30 (UNI) Tata Steel posted a 41 per cent increase in net profit at Rs 1,064 crore and recorded a 20 per cent rise in turnover at Rs 5,038 crore in the third quarter of the current fiscal.

A company release today said the saleable steel production and steel sales volumes increased by eleven per cent and 11.5 per cent respectively during the peroid as compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

The company had also recorded a turnover of Rs 14,153 crore, an increase of 13 per cent and a net profit of Rs 3,119 crore, an increase of 15 per cent during the first nine months ending December 31, 2006-07 as compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

Sales volumes increased by 12 per cent at 3.53 million ton, while supplies of cold rolled and galvanized products to auto sector had increased by 21 per centr at 0.35 million ton during the period April-December, 2006.

The total supply of steel to auto sector had increased by 29 per cent at 0.63 million ton and the sales of branded products increased by 14 per cent during the period.

The release said the turnover of all brandced products increased by 17 per cent at Rs 3,262 crore during the period April-December 2006. The company recorded an EDBITDA margin of 42 per cent and net profit margin of 24 per cent during the nine month period.
