Sun mulls local expansion, launches sales team

Chennai, Jan 30 (UNI) To tap the local market demand, IT major Sun Microsystems will expand its operation in the city and surrounding areas by launching a sales and marketing team.

Talking to newspersons here today, Sun Microsystems India Sales Director (Sales) Rajesh Rege said " the vast potential of emerging enterprise sector and the presence of large vibrant developer community in the city were the key factors that prompted the company to initiate such a move." "The expansion forms part of Sun's plans to gear up for the next phase in market growth across the country.

We have also indentified 18 tier III cities to enter with the help of our partner network by the end of the this fiscal", he said.

Mr Rege said the company had already launched operations in Coimbatore, Trichy, Vishakapatnam, Thiruvananthapuram, Dehradun, Guwahati, Goa, Indore, Bhopal, Ranchi Jammu and Nagpur.

Our first control centre set up in Chennai fits well with our overall strategy, which aims to cater to strong IT industry base coupled with the traditional base of manufacturing and large concentration of auto and ancillary companies in the city, he said.

On Sun's value proposition for customers in Chennai, Sun Microsystems Director (Marketing) Baba Sam said " we will continue to offer our customers more choices to improve efficiency and lower costs in the data centre." He claimed that no other server company offers in-depth server portfolio, which the Sun offers.

He said the Sun's portfolio consists of high-performace UltraSPARC proccessor-based servers, X64 systems and the breakthrough Sun Fire Modular Storage array.
